This is something we were introduced to years ago, and it's become a real winter staple at Weigh 'n Pay.

Elderberries are the perfect remedy when you're feeling sick, as they're proven to to reduce the severity of symptoms, reduce infection time and boost your immune system. Elderberry based medicine is available from the supermarkets and chemists, but we think this is a way better option!

Whether you’re already sick, getting sick or surrounded by sick folks, you should consider including Elderberries in your diet. The syrup is much cheaper than buying mass-produced stuff, contains no artificial sweetener and is super easy to make. Check out the recipe below!

Ingredients:

50g Dried Elderberries

1 Litre Water

1 Cinnamon Stick

1 Star Anise

2-3 Cloves

Big chunk of Fresh Ginger

1/2 Cup raw Local Honey

Method:

  1. Combine Elderberries, water, cinnamon, star anise, cloves and ginger into a large pot. Bring to a gentle simmer for 30 minutes.

  2. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

  3. While still warm (not hot!), add the honey and stir to combine.

  4. Place syrup into a sterile container and keep refrigerated for up to two weeks.

From here, you can consume 1 Tablespoon every couple hours as needed. You should feel the effects immediately so keep yourself hydrated, get lots of rest and you'll be feeling better in no time.

You can purchase Elderberries In-Store or Online!
