Anti-inflammatory Golden Paste & Turmeric Tonic Recipe

This recipe is a variation of the original Golden Paste, created by Australian veterinarian Dr Doug English. Originally designed to support the health of racehorses, it's since gained popularity as a beneficial supplement for animals of all sizes – and even humans! The key to its effectiveness lies in the turmeric: standard cooking turmeric contains only 0.5–1% curcumin, the active anti-inflammatory compound. Our Organic Turmeric Powder is tested and certified to contain 8% curcumin, offering far more potent benefits.

We LOVE making Turmeric Tonic from the Golden Paste as it makes it a lot easier to consume. It is critical to make the paste first (use olive oil instead of coconut oil) as this 'unlocks' the goodness in the turmeric, and then turn it into a tonic. It should take a total of 30 minutes per month to make, but you'll only need to be present for 10-15 minutes.

A quick note on safety: turmeric can have a mild blood-thinning effect. While this isn't an issue for most people, those on blood-thinning medication – especially treatments requiring regular monitoring – should consult their healthcare provider before adding turmeric to their daily routine.

Turmeric Golden Paste

A natural anti-inflammatory paste you can make very easily at home!

Ingredients

1/2 cup (125 mls/60gms) organic turmeric powder

1 cup water (250 mls) plus extra water if needed

1/4 cup (70 mls) niulife cold pressed coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil (preferable when making Turmeric Tonic)

2-3 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper (7-10 gms)

Instructions

1. Place turmeric and water in pan, stir over gentle heat until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7-10 minutes. If you feel your paste is too watery, add some more turmeric powder, if it is too thick simply add a little more water.

2. Remove from the heat and add the freshly ground pepper and oil. Stir well (a whisk is ideal) to evenly disperse the oil and allow to cool.

The golden paste will last in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. It can also be frozen in smaller containers to be defrosted and used as needed.

We suggest you start by consuming ½ teaspoon three times per day. You can ramp up to 1 teaspoon three times per day after 1-2 weeks.

Turmeric Tonic

A delicious drinkable version of Turmeric Golden Paste

Ingredients

1 Batch of Turmeric Golden Paste (see above)

50-100g fresh ginger, grated

1 star anise

2-3 cloves

1.5 Litres of Water

Instructions

1. Combine Water, Ginger, Star Anise and Cloves into a large pot. Bring to a gentle boil, turn down to low heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

2. Remove from heat, strain through a sieve, and allow to cool for 10 minutes

3. Add Honey & Turmeric Golden Paste. Stir well to combine.

Store in a few large glass bottles (grab a few freebies from our exchange!), and keep refrigerated.

Drink 3 sips (~30mls) 3 times per day and consume within two weeks. Give it a good shake each time you remove it from the fridge!

It is important to take small doses regularly. Curcumin only stays in your blood for ~7 hours (when combined with black pepper) so it should be consumed in the morning, afternoon and before bed.
