Recipe:
SPECULAAS (Version 2)
4 cups plain flour
1 cup butter
1 ½ cups brown sugar
1 tsp salt
4 tsp baking powder
2 Tblsp SPECULAAS spice (available from W&P)
milk
blanched almonds or mixed peel (optional)
Preheat oven to 170C. Mix all ingredients but the almonds & peel together. Add milk until it makes a stiff paste that can be rolled out. Roll into sheets and press blanched almonds and peel on top if you desire. Cut into rectangles roughly 2x4 inches and transfer to a tray lined with bakers paper. Bake until light brown.
